Instructions for joining The Eurochaplains Group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eurochaplains/

I have set up a special place on the Internet where the members of the European Network of Health Care Chaplaincy can hold discussions. The service is provided by Yahoo Groups.

The group provides us with several services:

1) If one member of the group sends and e-mail to the group addess- all members of the group will receive it and can reply to the whole group. This will be useful for continuing the discussions which we started at Turku. 2) There is a place to store files. members of the group post files there and others can open them. The documents from Turku are already there and members can post others files which they think others might like to see. 3) There is a photograph page. I have already placed my Turku pictures there. But you have to join the group before you can see them. Members can also put photographs on the page. 4) There is a facility to hold an on-line poll so that we can gather opinions from the Network.

But first you must join

There are two things to be done (1) Register an ID and password with Yahoo Groups. (2) Then to join the group.

Here is how you do it.

1) You must first "register" with Yahoo Groups. Go to this page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eurochaplains/ This is the home page for the group, but until you have registered with Yahoo and I have approved your application for membership of the group you will not be able to get into the group.

Click "register" (top right) Fill in the form (choose ID name and password) You will have to enter this every time you visit the group. On the form, "alternate E-mail address" is the one you want the group to use to send messages to you.

2) When you have registered you ID and password you should go back to the Eurochaplains page again. [If you go back to the main page groups page (not the Eurochaplans page) This is how to get back to the correct page: Type "Eurochaplains" into the box in the middle of the page. Click "Search" Click on the word "eurochaplains" to take you to the correct page.

3) From the Eurochaplains Group page. Click "Join this Group"

4) Yahoo will now verify your e-mail address to check you are who you say your are. If your e-mail address is printed correctly click "verify" beside the address. [If not enter the correct address in the box provided, then verify it.

5) You will be taken to the Verification page. Wait patiently while Yahoo sends you an e-mail with a verification code. (In my experience it takes a few minutes for the e-mail to arrive - always longer than I expect!)

6) When the e-mail arrives click on the link "Click here to Activate your new Account".

There are two distinct processes to go through to join the group:

(1) Apply to join the group itself http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/Eurochaplains

or go to the form on our website page: http://www.eurochaplains.org/group.htm#form

When your application has been approved by the Moderator of the Group (me!) there is still a second process to go through.

(2) You must register a Yahoo ID Name and Password. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Eurochaplains/

Click "Sign in to Yahoo" in the middle of the page (or "sign in" at the top right)

On the next page (left hand side) click "sign up now"

On the next page fill in the form with your suggested ID and password etc. This will register it with Yahoo. In the space where it says "Alternate E-mail" type in your e-mail address. This will allow Yahoo to contact you. Click "Submit this form" at the bottom of the page.

The next page is the terms and conditions. You must click "I accept at the bottom of the page"

If someone else has chosen your ID name, you will now be told this and asked to chose another one.

When you have filled in the form and all is well, you will be taken to the next page where your ID and e-mail are printed. WRITE THESE DOWN SOMEWHERE so you do not forget them. Check that the e-mail address is correct. If it is not, then click on the edit button to make the correction. I suggest you do NOT accept the option which is ticked on this page: "Yes, personalise my browser with Yahoo! Companion toolbar" which will put a new button on your browser toolbar. But this is up to you. Click "Continue to My Yahoo"

The next page should take you back to where you started - "The Eurochaplains Group Page". Except this time you should see your ID at the top left: "Welcome, <your ID>" Under this welcome you will see: "Already a member? Find your membership." Click on "Find your membership"

The next page is "Checking for Subscription" and asks you to "verify your e-mail address". You should see your e-mail address printed there. If it is correct then click "(verify)" This allows Yahoo to send you a message to this address to check that you are who you say you are and that you do want to join. (If you address is not correct type the correct address in the box provided.) Yahoo will now send you an e-mail. Be patient. This may take a little time to arrive. It always seems to take longer than you think. You will now be sitting at the page "E-mail Verification Required", awaiting the e-mail to arrive.

Open your e-mail program and see if the message has arrived. When it arrives click on the link (it will be something like: //verify.yahoo.com/v/recv?1fffe9) to verify your e-mail address. That should then take you back to the group and you should be in.

The next time you want to enter the group page, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Eurochaplains/ This time click "Sign in to Yahoo" in the middle of the page of "sign in" at the top right. Enter your Yahoo ID and password in the box on the right "Existing Yahoo Users" Click "sign in" And you are in!

It sounds a lot more difficult than it is. I have tried to go through all the stages for you. I am sure that will work.

Please do take the time to join the group and register your ID name and password. The group will be a great help in keeping communication going until the next consultation in Berlin.

If you are having difficulties please get in touch with me and I will see if I can help.
